Westchester Team Challenge blends community and competition
What started as an idea Grant Francis had while traveling abroad has grown into one of 90045’s most spirited and impactful fundraising events. Now entering its fourth year, the Westchester CA Team Challenge (WCTC) is a half-day celebration of community, camaraderie and creativity–all in the name of beautifying the streets of Westchester.
WHY WCTC?
The goal is to come together to raise funds and awareness for our Westchester beautification efforts and ultimately… HAVE FUN! The beneficiary of this event is the Westchester Streetscape Improvement Association (WSIA). Since LA City funds do NOT, WSIA caretakes our sidewalks and landscaping along Sepulveda Blvd. WCTC is a half day event where we play games like Corn Hole, Bocce Ball and relay running games. Each team competes for their personal best and bragging rights.
GET INVOLVED
Our goal is to gather 10 teams of 8-10 co-ed players who will spend 4 hours on Saturday morning, competing in 5 sets of non-impact games that will employ skills like throwing, jogging, tossing and having spirited fun.
Ways to get involved:
- Register a team
- Become a sponsor
- Make a contribution
- Be a volunteer
- Be a cheerleader for your team
OUR STORY
This whole Team Challenge idea started while Grant and his wife Judy were traveling in China several years ago. He saw a very large group of people all running around, having fun at a park. Being the inquisitive type Grant went over to find out what all of this happiness was all about. He saw teams of folks playing friendly competitive games. After coming home Grant wrote some notes about what he saw, thinking that this might be fun to start here in his community…
